The Immersion project will be very interesting. I am in the Math group
. My partner is Michael J
. Our topics are Elevation and Flood Stage. We are studying the flood stages in different places along the Flint River. We are also looking at the different elevations of the floods of 1994 and 1998.
This is the end of the first day. We have done a lot of research on the Flint River. Unfortunately, there is not as much information as I hoped, but it will do. The most fun thing we have done today is going to the courthouse. We got to go off campus and visit Anne Lamb's office and then go to the courthouse. The lady at the courthouse in the tax assessor office was extremely nice and when asked if she could help us she gave us a whole book of maps!
After the courthouse, we walked over to the Zone office. The lady printed off part of a map showing the places where the flood waters went up to in Mitchell County. Unfortunately neither had an elevation map. We went back to the computer lab to finish off the day with research. After searching the internet we were still unlucky in finding an elevation map for free.
Tomorrow should be more fun, though, because we get to go to the EMT offices and visit Ann Lamb. She will give us an insightful interview of the 1994 and 1998 floods.
Wednesday we get to go out on the river and take a hike and then eat off campus!
The Immersion project will be a different learning experience for the Westwood High School students.
Here are some pictures from Tuesday's interview with Ann Lamb!
